I heard from Kim Frail on March 24, 2023 about folks in the Faculty of Education whom I might approach as collaborators.

Hi Tom,

Just to jump in here - the Faculty of Education professors who have used the collection most often in their courses are:

Carla Peck

About Peck's research

Research Poster

Dwayne Donald
Jonathan Anuik

Here is a video introducing the collection that might be helpful as it includes some faculty testimonials.

And an article (note the collection has grown since the article was published)
(Professors Cathryn Van Kessel and Lindsay Gibson who are referenced in the video and article are no longer at the UofA)

A faculty member at UBC who does a lot of work in the area of historical school textbooks is: Penney Clarke

A few years ago, I attended the Canadian History of Education Association / Association canadienne d’histoire de l’éducation (CHEA/ACHÉ)  annual conference , there were several presentations relating to historical school textbooks. That might be another means of connecting with Canadian scholars in this area.

Best,
Kim

PS I should mention that I'm a librarian but not an archivist - although I have fantastic colleagues that work at UofA archives!

This also from Kim

You're very welcome! Two additional items of interest for Tom would be:

(what makes Wiedrick unique is that we have included the period of time it was authorized and the subject/grade it was used in)

-  the other person Tom might want to connect with is Education Librarian Pia Russel at UVic - she coordinated a similar digitization project at UVic and is keen to collaborate

That's it for now. Have a great weekend both.
